Investigation continues into deadly boat crash in Orange Beach

ORANGE BEACH, Ala. (WKRG) — A 27-foot Albury Brothers center console sits in a boat lift at Marine Police Headquarters in Orange Beach, with damage very evident near the stern. The boat is now part of an investigation into the crash that killed Kristen DeLaney, 46, Saturday night. According to investigators, the DeLaney boat and a 23-foot Key West center console collided just after 8 o'clock on the Intracoastal Waterway near Wolf Bay. Both boats were loaded with eight people; a total of nine would go to the hospital, including DeLaney, but she did not survive. She is being remembered as a devoted mother and wife, friend and community leader. It had been a festive weekend on the water. There was a lot of boat traffic in all directions with two huge fishing tournaments and the Blue Angels air show. The Marine Police division of the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency continues its investigation but is not providing any updates as to what the investigation shows happened Saturday night or if any criminal charges will be filed. Everyone on the Key West boat was from Louisiana; five of them, and DeLaney's husband, Drew, were all taken to Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola. There is no update on their conditions.
