Teenage girl killed, two others injured in Newton County crash
A teenage girl is dead and two people injured following a collision in Newton County. The Texas Department of Public Safety says at about 12:20 this morning, the driver of an SUV was traveling north on SH 87, north of FM 1415 near Burkeville, when the vehicle went around a curve at an unsafe speed, slid off the road and overturned on a grassy area near trees. One passenger, a 16-year-old girl, died at the scene. The driver and a second passenger were taken to a hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. The DPS continues investigating the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash. The Burkeville VFD and other agencies responded.
