Teen killed after driver hits pedestrian, tree in Lake Murray

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- One person is dead and multiple people were injured after a vehicle hit a pedestrian then a tree in San Diego on Sunday. Traffic was closed in both directions on Navajo Road from Cowles Mountain Boulevard to Golfcrest Drive in the Lake Murray neighborhood. First responders at the scene said the road was expected to stay closed through the late afternoon on Sunday as crews cleared the scene. San Diego Police said in an update a 35-year-old woman was driving a Mazda car just before 11:40 a.m. Sunday when she reportedly drove up onto the sidewalk in the area of 7500 Navajo Road and hit an 18-year-old pedestrian. The car then continued forward and hit a tree in a road divider. San Diego Police say a 14-year-old girl passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. The woman driving was injured with a fractured ankle. A 1-year-old boy and 8-year-old boy also in the car were uninjured, police report. The 18-year-old pedestrian was taken to the hospital with a concussion and a severe injury to his arm. Police have not identified the victim at this time.
