Teen hit and killed by car on I-70 while allegedly fleeing from police.
A tragic incident occurred when a teenager was fatally injured after reportedly fleeing from police and being struck by a vehicle on westbound I-70. According to authorities, the preliminary investigation revealed that the pedestrian was driving a vehicle that was being chased by police near Woods Chapel Road and Little Blue Parkway. Despite police attempting to stop the vehicle for traffic violations, it initially pulled over narrowly avoiding a collision with a semi-truck, then resumed driving before pulling over again. After two occupants fled the vehicle, one of them ran across multiple lanes of traffic and was hit by a passing vehicle, resulting in their death. The individual, identified as a 17-year-old from Oak Grove, Missouri, lost their life due to the injuries sustained. It is noted that Independence police did not engage in a pursuit with the involved vehicle, and the Missouri State Highway Patrol is conducting an investigation into the matter.
