Teen girl, infant killed in Ector County crash

ECTOR COUNTY — A 17-year-old girl and a 13-day-old boy died in a collision. According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the crash occurred about 3:50 p.m. June 4 at the intersection of U.S. 385 and the south service road of State Highway 158. DPS said the 17-year-old girl from Booneville, Mississippi, was pronounced dead at the scene. She was not identified in the DPS report because she was younger than 18. DPS also said a 13-day-old boy from Booneville, Mississippi, was pronounced dead at the scene. DPS said a preliminary investigation indicated a 2022 Dodge Ram 2500 was traveling north in the inside lane of U.S. 385 when a 2024 Chevrolet Malibu, traveling south, attempted a left turn onto the south service road of State Highway 158. The Chevrolet Malibu failed to yield the right of way during the turn, causing the Dodge to strike the passenger side of the Chevrolet. The impact ejected the Chevrolet’s driver, the 17-year-old girl, and the 13-day-old boy. DPS said neither the 17-year-old nor the 13-day-old boy was wearing a seat belt. Another passenger in the Chevrolet sustained serious injuries and was transported to Medical Center Hospital in Odessa. DPS said all occupants of the Dodge sustained minor injuries and were transported to Medical Center Hospital. The crash remains under investigation.
