Teacher thankful for donated sick days after accident.
A teacher at Lansdowne Elementary School expressed her gratitude after the Fayette County Public Schools community came together to support her family following a tragic car accident that resulted in the loss of her mother. Whitney Brigden was involved in a serious accident on December 26 when her husband suffered a medical emergency while driving on I-65 southbound. The accident took the life of Brigden's mother and left Whitney with a broken left ankle. Brigden shared that there was no opportunity for a proper goodbye, as everything happened suddenly. After reaching out for help on the Ladies of Lexington Facebook group, Brigden was overwhelmed by the response from the FCPS community. She received over 30 donated sick days within 24 hours, which have been crucial in supporting her recovery and coping with the loss of her mother. The support from more than 50 people who have donated sick days has been incredibly meaningful to Brigden, as it has provided her with access to healthcare and financial stability during a difficult time. Her husband, Ashton, described the emotional impact of the community's generosity, noting how touched Whitney was by the continuous support. Brigden is scheduled for ankle surgery this Wednesday, and a GoFundMe page has been set up to assist the family with additional expenses. Reflecting on the outpouring of support, Brigden expressed immense gratitude for the community's assistance.
