Tampa man apprehended following fast pursuit leading to collision in Polk County
A man from Tampa was apprehended by the Florida Highway Patrol in Polk County after engaging in a high-speed chase on Friday, January 16. The individual, identified as Jerell Carr, aged 35, is now facing several charges including fleeing law enforcement officers at a high speed, causing injury by fleeing recklessly, obstructing law enforcement, trafficking in fentanyl, as well as possession of cocaine and marijuana after the pursuit led to a collision involving six vehicles. As per the arrest report, troopers initially attempted to stop Carr while he was driving a blue Toyota Corolla exceeding the speed limit on County Road 540A in Lakeland around 2:30 in the afternoon. Although Carr initially pulled over, he quickly sped off as the trooper approached his vehicle. The subsequent chase reached speeds exceeding 100 mph, with Carr driving against traffic and even along the sidewalk. The pursuit ended when Carr crashed into a dump truck while trying to navigate through lanes at a red light. Following the crash, Carr was apprehended, and a search of the vehicle revealed significant amounts of cocaine, cannabis, and fentanyl. Carr, who had been imprisoned previously for drug-related offenses, was taken to Polk County Jail after the recent arrest. Records from the jail indicate a history of Carr being arrested multiple times for various offenses since 2010.
