Suspected DUI crash pins children between vehicles in Ogden, police say
OGDEN, Utah (ABC4) — Five juveniles were injured, including an 11-year-old girl who was flown to the hospital, after a suspected DUI crash during Fourth of July celebrations in Ogden Saturday night, according to Ogden Police. At around 10:20 p.m. on July 4, officers responded to the area of 4400 South Airport Road on reports of an auto-pedestrian crash involving multiple juveniles pinned between two vehicles. Additionally, the driver involved in the crash was allegedly attempting to flee the scene. Police said a large crowd had gathered on South Airport Road to watch fireworks throughout the valley. Police and medical personnel from Ogden, Riverdale, and Roy, along with Utah Highway Patrol, responded to the scene. According to Ogden Police, the driver of a gray GMC truck was attempting to leave the parking lot when they struck a parked white Dodge Charger. The truck's front bumper hit the driver's side door of the Charger, pinning several juveniles who were standing next to the vehicle. The driver reportedly then backed up and tried to leave, but witnesses surrounded the truck and began banging on the windows in an attempt to get the driver to stop. The bystanders eventually broke several windows to stop the driver before officers arrived, police said. Five juvenile victims were taken to local hospitals with injuries ranging from scrapes to broken bones. Police said an 11-year-old girl was later flown from McKay-Dee Hospital to Primary Children's Hospital with a broken pelvis. The suspect was taken to the hospital for evaluation and was arrested for felony DUI involving injury with prior offenses. The names of the victims or the suspect are not being released at this time. The investigation remains ongoing. No further information is currently available.
