One killed, another airlifted after fiery crash at Indiantown intersection

A driver was killed, and another was airlifted to the hospital after a crash early Sunday morning in Indiantown. Firefighters with Martin County Fire Rescue say the crash happened around 2 a.m. along State Road 710 near Southwest Warfield Blvd. and Southwest Silver Fox Lane. Fire crews reportedly arrived to find a small sedan fully engulfed in flames. Crews extinguished the fire, but the 40-year-old man succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Troopers say the violent crash caused the Kia to burst into flames. The 41-year-old man driving the truck was airlifted to the hospital by LifeStar helicopter with what fire officials described as traumatic injuries. As of today, a county fire spokesperson says firefighters have responded to 42 crashes on State Road 710 so far this year. CBS12 News has reported on several crashes along SR 710 over the last year. Martin County Sheriff John Budensiek calls the highway a death trap . "People are burning to death in their cars," said Budensiek. "This is not a crash here, a crash there. There is a consistent patten of death on this road and we need to fix it." FDOT is working to widen SR710 from two lanes to four lanes to cut down on the number of crashes. But construction isn't expected to start until mid 2029. This latest deadly crash follows several other crashes in four days leading up to this holiday weekend that killed five people in Martin County alone. All roads in the area have since reopened, and the Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of the crash.
