State Road 82 in Immokalee closed due to fatal accident; Florida Highway Patrol investigating
UPDATE: A serious crash involving multiple vehicles resulted in the closure of a section of State Road 82 in Immokalee early Thursday morning, resulting in the tragic deaths of four individuals and injuries to two others. The incident occurred shortly after midnight, leading to the shutdown of SR-82 between Church Road and Corkscrew Road as Florida Highway Patrol investigators examined the area. The road has since been reopened after the investigation. The Collier County Sheriff's Office received the initial report at 12:22 a.m. and collaborated with Florida Highway Patrol to manage traffic. The crash involved a Kia Forte, a Subaru Ascent, and a Kia Sedona. According to FHP's report, the Kia Forte attempted to overtake the Kia Sedona by entering the opposite lane, causing a collision with the Subaru Ascent traveling in the opposite direction. As a result of the crash, the driver of the Kia Forte, a 30-year-old woman, the driver of the Subaru Ascent, a 51-year-old woman, and one passenger lost their lives, with another passenger succumbing to injuries later. Two additional Subaru passengers sustained serious injuries. The driver of the Kia Sedona remained unharmed. The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
