South Williamsport man identified as victim in fatal Interstate 180 crash

Pennsylvania State Police have identified the pedestrian who was killed after being struck by a vehicle on Interstate 180 in Lycoming County last week. According to a crash report released by state police, 42-year-old John L. Erdos of South Williamsport died after being hit by an SUV on May 29 in Fairfield Township. The crash occurred at approximately 6:18 p.m. in the westbound lanes of Interstate 180 near mile marker 207. Police said Erdos entered the travel lane from the left shoulder and was struck by a westbound Chevrolet Tahoe traveling in the passing lane. Erdos suffered fatal injuries and later died while being treated at UPMC Williamsport, according to investigators. The driver of the SUV, 57-year-old Kenneth E. Kurth of Muncy, and a passenger, 58-year-old Rebecca L. Kurth, were not injured in the crash. Police said both occupants were wearing seat belts. State police continue to investigate the crash. Emergency responders from Fairfield Township Volunteer Fire Company, Susquehanna Regional EMS, Willing Hand Hose Company and PennDOT assisted at the scene.
