Small Plane Crashes in Dickinson County Field
OKOBOJI, Iowa (KCAU) — Emergency crews responded to a plane crash just outside of Okoboji on Saturday morning. The crash happened around 10:45 a.m. west of the Dickinson County Nature Center and Kenzie Park, located outside of Okoboji. Officials told KCAU 9 that the pilot, identified as Kenneth Kenma, 72, of North Fort Myers, Florida, was the only person on board and that he was not injured in the crash. Kenma had just taken off from the nearby Spirit Lake Airport when he experienced some sort of mechanical failure. He was able to set the plane down in a nearby field. The Dickinson County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene with assistance from the Milford Fire Department, Milford Police Department, Okoboji Police Department, Arnolds Park Police Department, Spirit Lake Police Department, Spirit Lake Ambulance, AP/O Fire Department, AP/O Rescue, Dickinson County Communication Center, and Dickinson County Emergency Management. The crash is still under investigation. More details are expected to be released at a later time.
