Thousands without power after hit and run crash in Kalamazoo, outage could last all day
A crash that police called a hit and run is causing a power outage on Tuesday morning. "We need the fence to come down" | Kalamazoo's Arcadia Creek Festival Place revamp timeline Over 3,500 Consumers Energy customers are without power on Tuesday morning after what Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety (KDPS) offices called a hit and run crash near Oakland Drive and Parkview Avenue before 2:30 a.m. KDPS officers said the road reopened around 4:30 a.m., however, power is still out for thousands and is impacting the Oakland Drive and Parkview Avenue traffic light. Until it is restored, drivers should treat the intersection like a four-way stop. KDPS did not initially release any additional details about the crash including who may have been involved or if anyone is hurt. News Channel 3 crews observed a damaged power pole, downed power line and crash debris is at the scene. Consumers Energy crews are in the area and brought a new power pole around 4:30 a.m. As of 6:30 a.m., Consumers Energy's outage map reports the estimated time of restoration for power in the energy as 9 p.m. Tuesday night. The outage comes as thousands in West Michigan went without power after storms on Friday, with as many as 1,400 in the Kalamazoo area on Monday still in the dark.
