Driver charged after allegedly leaving deadly crash in Nicholas County, deputies say

UPDATED - 7:20 p.m., 7/20/26 A man has been charged following a deadly crash in Nicholas County, deputies said. Harley David Webb, 22, has been charged after allegedly leaving the scene of a crash that killed 70-year-old Ralph Edward Martin Jr., according to a news release from the Nicholas County Sheriff’s Office. The release said deputies responded to a two-vehicle crash along Route 41 in Mount Nebo Monday afternoon. According to the release, Webb is accused of “pulling out of his driveway in a reckless manner” and striking Martin’s pickup truck. Investigators said Martin “immediately succumbed to his injuries” and Webb was later found in Summersville where he was taken into custody. Webb is being held at Central Regional Jail on a $15,000 cash-only bond. ORIGINAL STORY One person died in a Nicholas County wreck Monday afternoon, firefighters said. A two-vehicle crash was reported just before 1:30 p.m. in the 2000 block of Route 41 in Mount Nebo, according to a social media post from the Wilderness Fire Department. The post said no other injuries were reported. The roadway was closed for more than two hours as crews worked to clear the wreck. Firefighters reported receiving assistance on scene from Summersville and Keslers Cross Lanes crews along with Jan-Care Ambulance and the Nicholas County Sheriff’s Office.
