Single-engine plane crashes near Steamboat Springs: NTSB

DENVER (KDVR) -- Four people were killed after a single-engine airplane crashed into mountainous terrain near Steamboat Springs just after midnight Friday, according to Steamboat Radio. Routt County Sheriff Doug Scherar said the crash occurred in a very remote area of Emerald and that all the bodies have been recovered, according to Steamboat Radio. The Federal Aviation Administration, in a statement Friday morning, said four people were on board an Epic E1000 aircraft when it crashed at around 12:20 a.m. local time. The FAA said itself and the National Transportation Safety Board will be investigating the crash. In a statement, the NTSB said preliminary information indicates the plane crashed into mountainous terrain under "unknown circumstances." An NTSB investigator is en route to the scene of the crash and is expected to arrive by Friday afternoon, according to the agency. Witnesses or those who have surveillance video or other information that could be relevant to the investigation are asked to contact the NTSB by email.
