Sheriff’s Office investigates fatal ATV crash that killed Batavia man in Pembroke
Pembroke, N.Y. — A 23-year-old Batavia man died after the ATV he was operating crashed into a tree, according to the Genesee County Sheriff's Office. The crash occurred on Ellinwood Road in the Town of Pembroke at 7 p.m. Saturday night. Emergency crews responded to a 911 call reporting the crash. Upon arrival, they found that the ATV had collided with a tree. According to the Sheriff’s Office, deputies identified the operator and sole occupant of the ATV as 23-year-old Michael J. Wittmeyer. They say Wittmeyer was traveling northbound on Ellinwood Road and failed to navigate the bend of the road. He left the roadway, struck a tree, and was ejected from the ATV. EMS Personnel attempted life-saving measures, but Wittmeyer was pronounced dead at the scene . The crash is currently being investigated by the Genesee County Sheriff's Office.
