Serious injury to construction worker in Dania Beach incident

A construction worker was seriously hurt on Monday in Dania Beach after being hit and being driven over by a dump truck. The incident took place around 1:30 p.m. at 309 SE 5th St., where a project to improve drainage has been ongoing for around a year. The project in Dania Beach aims to modernize drainage systems in a neighborhood known for flooding. Following the accident, aerial footage from Chopper Four showed a significant presence of police and construction workers at the scene. When reporters from CBS News Miami arrived, workers on-site did not provide any comments about the incident. A neighbor who saw surveillance video confirmed observing a dump truck in the footage and voiced concern about the incident. The neighbor expressed disappointment over the situation, mentioning that the city is likely providing adequate funding for the project to ensure safety measures are in place. Resident Shawn Derosa stated, "It's disheartening to hear because I know the city is allocating funds, possibly even an excessive amount, to guarantee all safety precautions are being taken. Any additional supervision needed should be prioritized so that individuals are aware of their surroundings. It's sad that someone was injured today." The injured worker was taken to Broward Health in serious condition. The cause of the accident is currently being investigated.
