Serious crash involving bicyclist on Virginia Beach Blvd.
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - A man riding a bicycle suffered serious, life-threatening injuries following a crash Thursday afternoon in Virginia Beach. The incident occurred in the 4300 block of Virginia Beach Blvd. Emergency Communications and Citizens Services received a report of the crash at 1:49 p.m. on March 5, a police spokesperson confirmed. Officers from the Virginia Beach Police Department (VBPD) arrived at the scene and located the injured man. The bicyclist was transported to an area hospital for medical treatment. The driver of the vehicle involved in the collision remained at the scene. According to the Virginia Beach Police Department, the driver has cooperated with officers during the initial stages of the investigation. WAVY responded to the scene. Police blocked all lanes of Virginia Beach Blvd. while they investigated. Master Police Officer III John Hlebinsky of the Public Affairs Office confirmed the details of the police response. The department is currently handling the matter as an active investigation. VBPD said it will release additional details about the crash as they become available. The location of the crash is not far from Princess Anne High School. WAVY reached out to school officials to ask if anyone from the school was involved in the crash. A spokesperson responded "We have not received any information at this time about a student-involved accident near PAHS."
