Rochester firefighters respond to rollover crash, car fire

ROCHESTER, Ill. (WCIA) -- Two separate crashes on Saturday -- one of which led to a fire -- kept Rochester firefighters busy over the weekend. The fire protection district first responded to a single-vehicle rollover accident at the 1700 block of North Walnut Saturday afternoon. Officials said the driver had minor injuries and was brought to the hospital to be checked out. "It is crucial to reiterate that North Walnut is a perilous winding road with loose gravel, and the 4-way intersection at Gaule Rd, where mixed with speed can lead to dangerous situations," fire officials wrote in a post on Facebook. The district thanked the Sangamon County Sheriff's Office and Medics First of Springfield Illinois for assisting. Crews were able to clear the scene about an hour after first arriving on-scene. But that wasn't where their day ended. Later that evening, crews responded to the 7100 block of Mottar Road for a hybrid vehicle crash and fire. Although there were no injuries, firefighters remained on the scene for about two and a half hours due to the vehicle type, officials said. The district thanked the Sangamon County Sheriff's Office, the Rochester Police Department and the Pawnee Fire Department for their assistance. Photos courtesy of Rochester Fire Protection District
