Road closure on NC 54 due to car accident with power pole in Durham near Chapel Hill, say authorities
A major road connecting Durham and Chapel Hill was closed on Thursday afternoon after a vehicle collided with a power pole, as reported by Durham police. The closure affected NC 54/Raleigh Road near Falconbridge Road, close to the Durham/Orange County border. The crash, which brought down power lines, prompted the shutdown of the road between Farrington Road and the Chapel Hill town line. The closure began around 2:20 p.m. and was still in effect as of the latest update. Additionally, another crash occurred near Farrington Road, leading to the closure of three out of the five westbound lanes on NC 54. This second incident was expected to last until approximately 4:15 p.m. According to Durham police at 3 p.m., the roadway was clear after Farrington Road.
