Resolution of ER crash lawsuit with St. David's family.

St. David’s Healthcare has resolved a legal case with a family who suffered serious injuries during a car collision at St. David’s North Austin Medical Center last February. The incident left five people injured and the driver of the car deceased. Levi and Nadia Bernard had filed a lawsuit against the hospital system in May, seeking more than $1 million for various damages, including medical expenses, pain, and lost wages. Nadia spent several weeks in the hospital, while their two-year-old son, Sunny, required numerous stitches on his face and head. The terms of the settlement remain confidential, and St. David’s has refuted any claims of negligence according to recent court documents. The details of the agreement were confirmed by the family's attorney, Sean Breen, although he declined to provide further information. The incident, which KXAN has been monitoring for over a year as part of their investigations, prompted changes in city regulations requiring protective barriers at new hospitals. Despite an unsuccessful attempt to extend this regulation statewide during the previous legislative session, attention is still being drawn to enhance safety measures at medical facilities. St. David’s emphasized their commitment to the safety of patients, employees, and visitors while refraining from discussing ongoing legal matters as per their policy. KXAN has contacted St. David’s for additional input on the settlement and will update their coverage accordingly.
