Residents raise concerns after series of crashes at Deltona intersection.

Residents are raising concerns after a series of crashes at the intersection of Newmark Drive and Humphrey Boulevard in Deltona, where multiple incidents have been caught on camera in recent months.Exclusive video from Sunday shows a car speeding through a stop sign and causing a crash. A similar video captured in December shows a white car running the same stop sign, highlighting what neighbors describe as an ongoing safety issue.Steve Gray, a Deltona resident, said he was seriously injured at the two-way stop intersection about a year ago while out walking.“I made it to the driveway when I heard, 'Boom,'” Gray said. “A car ran the stop sign, hit a pickup truck, and that pickup truck, in turn, hit me and put me on the ground.”>> Subscribe to the WESH 2 YouTube channelGray spent a month in the hospital following the crash. He said his mobility has worsened since the incident.“I still try and walk every day, but I can’t go as far as I used to because it’s hard to breathe, and I don’t sleep because I’m in pain,” he said.A flashing warning sign on Humphrey Boulevard alerts drivers to the intersection ahead, but neighbors say it has done little to prevent collisions.Ryan Hendrix, who lives at the corner, said he has contacted the city multiple times about the issue and worries about safety in the area.“I won’t let my child ride the bus because I’m worried about that walk in the morning or in the afternoon,” Hendrix said.Deltona Commissioner Davison Heriot acknowledged the repeated crashes and said the city is taking steps to address the problem.“I don’t want to see accidents — repeated accidents — at an intersection,” Heriot said.Heriot added that city staff is working to bring in a third-party traffic consultant to determine the most effective safety improvements for the intersection.City officials have not announced a timeline for potential changes.>> Download the WESH 2 app to stay up to date on breaking news and weather
