Residents call for road safety improvements following bicycle incident in Lehigh Acres.

A witness observed a bicyclist just before they were struck by a gray sedan, causing significant damage to the car's windshield and resulting in the bicycle being severely damaged. Pictures taken at the scene in Lehigh Acres also displayed shoes left in the middle of the road following the collision. Concerns regarding road safety have been raised by residents living along the street. Deisy Rivera, a resident, expressed worry about how busy the street is and the speed of passing cars. Authorities blocked off the southbound lanes of Sunshine Boulevard after the incident, with both the car and the bicycle being removed. Rivera and other residents are advocating for safety improvements, such as speed bumps, due to the high number of accidents in the area. Rivera mentioned requesting two speed bumps to protect her family and emphasized the need for greater awareness from authorities. She highlighted the area's history of accidents, including fatal ones, prompting a request for more information from the Florida Highway Patrol as the investigation unfolds.
