'Really busy street': Residents concerned after fatal hit-and-run at busy stretch of road in Overlea
Baltimore County police identified a 69-year-old victim of a fatal hit-and-run, days after the collision.Landis Williams died Friday in Overlea, according to Baltimore County police. Officials have not identified the driver of the vehicle involved in the crash.On Friday around 8:20 p.m., Williams was hit along a busy stretch of Belair Road by the driver of a silver 2014 Honda CR-V.Williams, a homeless man, died at the hospital, according to police. WBAL-TV 11 News has learned Williams was known to some in the neighborhood, including Ebbony Bennett."So, it was a homeless guy that sat in front of Rosedale Federal for the past week or so," Bennett said. "So, it really shocks us that it was him, because we don't see him there anymore."Bennett is among the scores of people who work, live and visit the area, and many said the stretch of road is dangerous to try crossing on foot.In 10 minutes, WBAL-TV 11 News observed five cars, two trucks and a large white van run the solid red light at the intersection of Belair Road and Fleetwood Avenue."Belair Road is a really, really busy street," Bennett said. "Last year, about a year or two ago, another incident happened, like a block up in front of the barber shop there (at) Fleetwood and Belair. Another pedestrian was struck and hit and ended up dying. So, it's very busy."Baltimore County police said the suspect vehicle was not stolen, and it has been located.Still, police declined to share whether officials have identified the driver, or if charges are pending. Police said the fatal crash remains an ongoing investigation.
