‘Really a tragedy’: Owner of Indianapolis daycare destroyed in crash speaks out
INDIANAPOLIS — Poohbear’s House of Hugs is a dream come true for the owner, who asked FOX59/CBS4 not share her name. She started the business shortly after her son, 27-year-old Rodriquez “Pooh” Anderson, was found shot and killed in his car. "He said ‘well mama, I want you to get you a daycare and get your license,' and I said 'OK, I’ll work on it,’” she said. "I worked on it and worked on it, but I didn't get my license until after he got killed.” Seven years of business came crashing down just after midnight on Saturday. A truck rammed into the east side business, tearing down walls and shattering memories. The owner was inside working shortly before the crash. She left around midnight to get gas and came back to the destruction. "This is really a tragedy for me,” the owner said. "I ain't going to be able to see my babies.” IMPD initially responded to the scene to investigate a personal injury crash. During that investigation, officers discovered the driver of the crashed vehicle had gunshot wounds. A 15-year-old was found hurt in the passenger seat of the vehicle. "All I was doing is praying for the people that was inside here,” the owner said. "I don't know what happened or none of that. All I know is I love this place, and this has been keeping me going.” It is still unclear who shot the driver. Police reports indicate IMPD grabbed DNA swabs from different parts of a handgun during their investigation of the incident. As questions still remain on the incident, the owner of Poohbear's House of Hugs is left questioning how she can rebuild. "This building is really my heart,” she said. "When I come in here, I pray, I read the bible every morning before.” It’s important to keep Poohbear’s House of Hugs alive not only for the kids she cares for, but for her own son. "This brought up memories, and I promise to God I’m going to keep his memory alive,” the owner said of her son. "All I need is help because I started from the ground up. If anybody can help me, please help, please help.” Anyone wanting to help Poohbear's House of Hugs can donate to the owner's GoFundMe.
