Pursuit ends when SUV flies off 10 Freeway, lands on parked car in Claremont

A pursuit suspect was hospitalized early Tuesday after his SUV crashed into a parked vehicle while fleeing officers in Los Angeles County. The incident began shortly before 2 a.m. when California Highway Patrol officers attempted to stop a silver SUV on Towne Avenue in Claremont, according to a CHP spokesperson. The driver entered the eastbound 10 Freeway to evade officers, but the short pursuit ended minutes later when the suspect tried to exit at Indian Hill Boulevard and lost control, driving off the roadway. Video showed the SUV landed upside down on top of a parked black sedan in a NORMS restaurant parking lot. The sedan’s owner was inside the restaurant at the time and was not injured. A bloodied man, believed to be the suspect, was also seen in handcuffs as he was taken from the scene in an ambulance. The suspect was transported to a nearby hospital in unknown condition. The injuries were not considered life-threatening, the CHP spokesperson said. Authorities have not released information on why officers initially attempted the traffic stop. KTLA’s Nancy Fontan contributed to this report.
