Possible link between fatal I-15 crash suspect and pre-crash sexual assault case
According to the Salt Lake City Police Department, the individual accused of causing a fatal wrong-way crash on Interstate 15, resulting in the deaths of two teenagers, was also allegedly involved in a sexual assault incident prior to the collision. The suspect, Jose Angel Torres Jimenez, 21, is facing charges of Automobile Homicide, DUI, and wrong-way driving for the incident where he collided head-on with the teenagers' vehicle while driving south in the northbound lanes. The victims, identified as 17-year-old Anneka Wilson and 18-year-old Leo Shepherd, tragically lost their lives in the crash. The police department mentioned that just before the collision at 2 a.m., their officers were responding to reports of a potential sexual assault nearby, with another report of a wrong-way driver on I-15. The authorities are currently looking into whether there is a connection between the assault incident and the fatal crash, and they are uncertain if the suspect was fleeing from the scene of the alleged assault before the collision with the teens occurred.
