Man charged in deadly crash gets jail time for unrelated OUI charge
RAYNHAM, Mass. (WPRI) — The Avon man accused of causing a crash that killed a motorcyclist in Raynham last week pleaded guilty to operating under the influence earlier this year. Jacob Larsen, 22, was driving with a suspended license when police say he hit and killed 52-year-old Scott Piche with his car at the intersection of South Street East and Hill Street Friday night. Piche was rushed to Morton Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Larsen pulled over and was cooperative throughout the investigation, which revealed he was out on bail in connection with the previous OUI charge, according to police. Officers arrested Larsen as a result of the Raynham crash and charged him with motor vehicle homicide by negligent operation and operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license. He was also cited for failing to yield and a marked lanes violation. Larsen's bail was revoked when he faced a judge on Monday. He returned to court Wednesday morning and pleaded guilty to the OUI charge. He was sentenced to 90 days in prison and also received two years of probation with strict conditions, which include not drinking alcohol and not driving without a valid license. The OUI charge stems from a head-on crash in Rehoboth that happened back in January. Police said Larsen was speeding down Winthrop Street when he crossed the double yellow lines and slammed into an oncoming car. The other driver, identified by police as a 39-year-old woman, was brought to Morton Hospital to be treated for various injuries. Police said Larsen smelled like alcohol and admitted that he had been drinking prior to the crash. He was taken into custody after failing a series of field sobriety tests. He was also driving with a suspended license at the time of the Rehoboth crash, according to police. The woman who Larson hit addressed the court before he was sentenced. She said the crash has impacted her "physically, emotionally and financially." "I was hit and ever since then, everything in my life has changed," she said. Larsen is now awaiting trial for the crash that killed Piche. The victim's family was in court for the sentencing and visibly emotional throughout the proceedings.
