Police: Wrong-way driver killed, another hospitalized after head-on crash in Florence
Police say that one person is dead and another is injured after a head-on crash occurred in Florence on Saturday.According to the Florence Police Department, officers were dispatched at 8:51 p.m. to the intersection of Mall Road and Mall Access for a report of a two-vehicle collision.The intersection is located near the Florence Mall.When officers arrived on scene, they said they found two people who had sustained injuries in two vehicles that appeared to have directly crashed into one another.One person, an adult woman, was later pronounced dead at the scene by responding EMS personnel. Meanwhile, the other driver was transported to Saint Elizabeth Hospital Florence with non-life-threatening injuries.The department said its preliminary findings suggest that the vehicle being driven by the woman who was killed in the crash was driving on the wrong side of the road at the time of the incident.The woman has not yet been publicly identified as officers work to notify her family.The crash remains under investigation.
