Police: head-on crash in Amherst County leaves teen dead, two injured

AMHERST COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) - A two-vehicle crash ended in the death of a 19-year-old and left two others injured, according to Virginia State Police (VSP). The crash happened on May 17, around 8:00 p.m., on Winesap Road in Amherst County. VSP says a 2017 GMC Sierra was headed westbound on Winesap Road when it crossed the centerline and hit a 2008 Ford F150 head-on. The 19-year-old driver and two passengers of the GMC Sierra were taken to an area hospital, police say. The passengers were a 19-year-old and a juvenile. The 21-year-old driver of the Ford truck was also taken to an area hospital for treatment. VSP says Tristan T. Fluharty, 19, was a passenger in the GMC and succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. State police say charges are pending and the crash remains under investigation.
