Police: 1 dead after late-night crash in Grand Rapids

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A woman was killed in a suspected drunken driving crash at a busy Grand Rapids intersection Sunday night, police say. A vehicle driving northbound hit another car while running a red light at the intersection of 28th Street SE and S Division Avenue around 11:40 p.m. Sunday, a GRPD spokesperson said in a release. The female driver of the car that was hit was pronounced dead at the scene. At least one of the three people inside the car that ran the red light suffered serious injuries. Authorities said speed and alcohol are considered likely factors in the crash. The eastbound and westbound lanes of 28th Street at S Division Avenue were shut down for about three hours after the crash, reopening just after 3 a.m.
