Plaintiff in Austin Police lawsuit and Soho Lounge case dies in car accident; legal proceedings ongoing

The video that accompanies this article was broadcasted on Sept. 9, 2025. A legal case initiated by Nakole Curry remains ongoing following her passing. Curry had filed a lawsuit against the Austin Police Department and Soho Lounge on Sept. 3, claiming that on Dec. 16, 2023, police officers had fired their weapons recklessly, injuring her while she was with other bystanders. Even after sustaining a bullet wound to her head, resulting in permanent blindness in one eye, Curry survived the incident. The city of Austin attempted to have the case dismissed, contending that it lacked grounds for relief. Soho Lounge has yet to reply to the lawsuit. Tragically, Curry passed away in a car accident on Sept. 13. Her death certificate, submitted to the court, indicates that the crash occurred in Bell County when she collided with a guardrail on Interstate 35. The immediate cause of death was attributed to the accident. Curry, a 24-year-old U.S. Army veteran, was laid to rest in South Carolina. Although Curry is no longer able to continue the legal proceedings, her daughter remains involved in the lawsuit, and her father is set to be listed as a surrogate representative.
