Pilot dies following plane crash at Saratoga County Airport

MILTON, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The pilot of the plane that crashed at Saratoga County Airport in Milton on Tuesday has died, New York State Police confirmed on Wednesday. The incident remains under investigation. The single-engine Piper PA-25 plane was reportedly towing a glider when it crashed around 1:45 p.m. According to the Federal Aviation Authority, the glider had pitched up, causing the plane to nose over onto the runway and catch fire. State Police said the pilot was initially taken to the hospital with serious injuries. The victim's identity has not yet been released. The National Transportation Safety Board is currently leading the crash investigation. Anyone who witnessed the crash or has surveillance video or other information that could be related to the investigation are asked to contact the agency at [email protected]. The incident marks the second plane crash in or near Saratoga County Airport in the last seven months. Another small plane had crashed into a nearby home's driveway in October 2025. We spoke to that homeowner after Tuesday's crash. "We seem to be under attack here," said John Clapper. He recounted the October plane crash, saying, "It hit this tree right here. Plane fell... missed the middle of the house by about 10 feet. Missed my car by about 12 feet, melted the bumper on my Lexus," According to Saratoga County officials, the airport is open but the runway where the crash occurred remains closed. State Police are expected to release additional details at a later time; stay with us as we learn more.
