Petrolia Car Accident on Lighthouse Road near Mill Creek Road

PETROLIA, Calif. (Feb. 19, 2026) — Two people suffered serious head injuries in an early-morning crash Thursday along Lighthouse Road near Mill Creek Road in Petrolia, prompting a search in the dark and an emergency airlift from this remote stretch of Humboldt County, authorities said. The collision was reported on Feb. 19th shortly after 3:15 a.m. near coordinates provided to dispatchers on Lighthouse Road, west of Petrolia. According to incident logs from the California Highway Patrol, callers indicated multiple people were injured but not trapped inside the vehicle. First responders initially had difficulty locating the crash site. Dispatch notes show authorities were advised the vehicle had gone off the roadway and that the injured parties were not with the car when help was requested. Responders were told to search an area extending roughly 50 meters in all directions to locate those involved. By 3:54 a.m., officials reported two patients with head wounds and began arranging a medical flight. The injured were transported by fire personnel to the Petrolia Fire Station, where arrangements were made for an airlift to a hospital. The helicopter’s destination was not immediately known. The extent of the victims’ injuries has not been publicly released, but radio traffic indicated at least one passenger was flown out for further treatment. Authorities later requested additional units to document and measure the crash scene. It was not immediately clear what caused the vehicle to leave the roadway.
