Pedestrian struck after I-64 rollover accident

CARTER COUNTY, Ky (WOWK) -- One man has died after he was hit along I-64 in Carter County. Around 1:30 a.m. on Friday, Kentucky State Police say they received the call that a pedestrian was struck along the eastbound lanes of I-64 near the 150-mile-marker. Investigators say 33-year-old Anwarulhaq Safi, 33 was driving along I-64 when his vehicle made an abrupt turn to the right, hitting a guardrail, and traveling down a steep embankment before overturning on its side. Troopers say Safi got out of the vehicle, climbed the embankment, and then stood in the roadway before being hit by a passenger vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Carter County Coroner's Office. The driver of the passenger vehicle was transported to a nearby hospital for evaluation. Troopers say neither drugs nor alcohol are believed to be contributing factors in the accident.
