Union Pacific Police lead probe after fatal train-pedestrian crash in southeast Salem
A man believed to be in his early 50s was killed Wednesday afternoon after being struck by a train in southeast Salem, police said. Salem police officers responded at about 4:37 p.m. June 24 to a report of a train hitting a pedestrian at 4055 Turner Road Southeast. When officers arrived, they found the man dead. Police said the train was traveling southbound on tracks beneath Interstate 5 and was unable to stop in time. The pedestrian’s identity had not been confirmed.
