Pedestrian killed in hit-and-run after being involved in earlier crash on Bardstown Road
Louisville Metro Police are investigating a deadly hit-and-run that happened early Sunday morning after a man was hit while standing near his car following an earlier crash.According to LMPD, it was around 1:30 a.m. Sunday when officers were called out to the area of Bardstown Road and South Watterson Trail for a report of a crash involving a pedestrian. A preliminary investigation found a car was stopped in the left northbound lane of Bardstown Road, just north of South Watterson Trail, following a previous crash.Police said the circumstances surrounding that earlier crash are still under investigation.Investigators believe the driver of that car was standing beside it near a concrete median when an unknown vehicle traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of Bardstown Road hit him and then took off.Louisville EMS and Fern Creek Fire responded to the scene.The man was taken to UofL Hospital, where he later died from his injuries.His identity has not been released. The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office will identify him after the next of kin has been notified.LMPD’s Traffic Unit is leading the investigation.
