Pedestrian fatally struck by truck on I-40, Germantown Pkwy
MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- An investigation is underway after a pedestrian was fatally hit by a truck Monday night on I-40 near Germantown Parkway, the Memphis Police Department (MPD) said Tuesday morning. According to officers, they responded to the accident around 10:55 p.m. Investigators say they determined that a Ford F-150 was traveling eastbound on I-40 when it struck a pedestrian. The victim was taken to Regional One in critical condition, where they later succumbed to their injuries. At this time, no new information has been released, as this is an ongoing investigation. Last Wednesday, WREG reported that three pedestrians were struck by vehicles, leaving two dead and one in critical condition. In one of those incidents, a woman was arrested after striking a pedestrian on I-40 and South Parkway. Tarina Lanette Zirker, 30, is charged with driving while her license was revoked and driving without proof of insurance. Police reported that Zirker, who was driving a Nissan Altima, was traveling southbound on I-240 near South Parkway East. A female pedestrian entered into a travel lane and was hit by Zirker’s Altima, authorities said. The victim was pronounced dead, and Zirker remained at the scene. She was immediately placed into custody and taken to the Shelby County Jail. A court date has not been scheduled for Zirker at this time.
