Pedestrian dies after she was struck by car in Riviera Beach
A 37-year-old woman crossing Broadway Avenue became Riviera Beach police's first fatal crash this year.The crash was reported at 6:29 p.m. Saturday when a person was struck in the 3100 block of Broadway, spokesman Mike Jachles said. Riviera Beach Fire Rescue and police responded. Investigators determined that Yusdelaisy Mendez Rivero was crossing Broadway from east to west when she was hit by a northbound 2005 Cadillac SRX. The driver, a 50-year-old Riviera Beach man, remained on the scene. He was the only occupant of the Cadillac and was not injured. Mendez Rivero was taken to St. Mary’s Trauma Center, where she died from her injuries. Northbound and southbound lanes of Broadway were shut down from the 2900 to 3200 blocks while traffic homicide investigators conducted the on-scene investigation. No charges are pending, though the investigation remains ongoing. Any witnesses to the crash, or anyone with information about the crash, should call Officer Jeffrey Barker at 561-845-4123. On May 13, a 16-year-old girl from Riviera Beach lost control of her car on Interstate 95 northbound near the Blue Heron Boulevard exit, crashed into a barrier and died. It was handled by Florida Highway Patrol.
