Pedestrian dies after exiting vehicle involved in northeast Columbus crash

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — One person is dead after they initially walked away from a multi-vehicle crash early Monday in northeast Columbus. According to Columbus police, one victim was taken to a hospital with critical injuries after a two-car crash at the intersection of Morse Road and Sunbury Road near the Easton area. Police said that after the adult was involved in a crash, they began to walk away, heading into the eastbound lanes of Morse Rd. At the same time a black sedan traveling east struck the adult, knocking them into the westbound turn lane just past Sunbury Rd. The sedan did not stop and continued east on Morse Rd., while the adult was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries. The crash was reported at 12:08 a.m. and cleared by 5 a.m. The victim was pronounced dead at 12:41 a.m. Approximately 90 minutes later, the driver of the black sedan, a 2018 Chevrolet Malibu, contacted police and reported they were involved in the crash. That driver then met with Columbus Police AIU detectives and the investigation remains ongoing.
