Part of outbound Eisenhower Expressway closed Sunday morning on Near West Side after fatal chain-reaction crash: ISP

CHICAGO — One person was killed and seven others were injured in a chain-reaction crash involving four vehicles early Sunday morning on the outbound Eisenhower Expressway, according to Illinois State Police. ISP says the crash happened around 3 a.m. on I-290 westbound at South Ashland Avenue on Chicago's Near West Side. The right lane of the outbound Eisenhower Expressway and several ramps remain closed Sunday morning at the scene of the crash. According to a preliminary investigation by ISP, traffic was slowed/stopped when a car rear-ended another car, causing the chain-reaction crash the ultimately totaled four vehicles. Eight people were taken to area hospitals with injuries, and one of those was pronounced dead at the hospital. No further information is available at this time, and the investigation remains ongoing.
