Overland Park police investigate wrong-way crash on I-435; interstate reopened
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The westbound lanes of Interstate 435 were closed for several hours Wednesday morning in Overland Park as police worked to clear a crash. According to the Overland Park Police Department call log, the crash was reported at about 2:48 a.m. Wednesday in the westbound lanes of I-435 near Quivira Road. Overland Park police in social media posts early Wednesday said the interstate was temporarily shut down due to a "serious injury" crash. A police spokesman later told FOX4 that a driver going the wrong way on the interstate hit another car head-on. Police said the driver was traveling east in the westbound lanes. The driver of the wrong-way vehicle was taken to a hospital in critical condition. Police said they are investigating to see if the driver was impaired at the time of the crash. The driver of the car that was hit was said to have minor injuries. By 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, the interstate was reopened for traffic.
