OSP: 18-year-old fell asleep at the wheel before deadly Highway 101 crash on Oregon coast
An 18-year-old from Washington died Friday morning in a crash on Highway 101 on the southern Oregon coast, and initial reports say he fell asleep at the wheel before drifting into oncoming traffic. The crash was reported at about 8:20 a.m. near Milepost 312, which is close to Port Orford. Oregon State Police say 18-year-old Luke Anree May Dizon of Covington, Washington was driving north on the Highway when his black Crysler Pacifica drifted into the southbound lane. He crashed head-on with a small school bus that had been converted into a motorhome, which was driven by a 73-year-old from Fort Bragg, California. Dizon had “reportedly fallen asleep at the wheel” before the crash,” state troopers say. He was pronounced dead at the crash scene.
