One person suffers serious injuries after plane crash in Newport
One person has serious injuries after a plane crash at the Parlin Airfield, according to officials.At 1:08 p.m., the Newport Police Department and the Newport Fire Department responded to the Parlin Airfield for a reported plane crash. Upon their arrival, they located a small private plane in a wooded area off the end of the grass runway. An off-duty Newport Police Department employee had witnessed the crash and assisted Newport Fire Officials in extracting the pilot from the plane. The pilot, who sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries, was transported to a local hospital. The identity of the pilot, who was the only occupant of the aircraft, is being withheld at this time.The cause of the crash is currently under investigation by the Federal Aviation Administration. The scene around the crash will be secured and off-limits to the public until further notice.
