One killed, several injured in Ohio Turnpike crash in Elyria
ELYRIA — A woman was killed and several other people were injured in a crash on the Ohio Turnpike in Elyria on Friday. The multi-vehicle crash occurred sometime before noon in the eastbound lane of the Turnpike, just west of the Gulf Road overpass bridge. Elyria Fire Chief Joe Vargo said that multiple people were injured in the crash, including the woman who sustained fatal injuries. First responders rendered aid to the woman and a MetroHealth Life Flight helicopter arrived with the intent to transport her to Cleveland for treatment, but she died at the scene, Vargo said. At least two other people were transported from the scene by LifeCare Ambulance to local hospitals. The eastbound lane of the Turnpike was completely closed during the response and as of 2:15 p.m. Elyria fire was still at the scene assisting with traffic. The cause of the crash is under investigation by the Ohio State Highway Patrol. This is a developing story, check back for updates.
