One injured during Wilson County Fair fireworks incident; event ends early

WILSON, N.C. (WNCN) -- One person was injured, and a fireworks show was cut short during a mishap Saturday night at the Wilson County Fairgrounds, officials said. The incident was reported just after 9:45 p.m. at the fairgrounds at 2331 U.S. 301, southwest of Wilson, according to a Wilson County Fair news release. Officials said that there was "an accident" when the fireworks were being set off. Video from the fireworks display showed several low-explosions, including fireworks that went up but then exploded nearly at ground level -- near the launch site. The fair news release said that crews could not detonate the remaining fireworks. "The fairgrounds would like to thank everyone for coming out tonight. Please say a prayer for the individual that was injured during the mishap," the Wilson County Fair said.
