One dead, six injured after I-87 crash in Saugerties
SAUGERTIES, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- New York State Police are investigating a fatal multi-car crash on I-87 in Saugerties. The crash happened Sunday night between Exits 19 and 20. Troopers responded to the area just before 9:15 p.m. on April 26 after receiving reports of a crash involving a wrong-way driver. Detectives determined that a 2025 Toyota being driven by Joseph Mensah-Otoo of Pittsfield, Massachusetts was reportedly heading south in the northbound lane of I-87 and collided with three other vehicles traveling north, causing him to be ejected from his car. Mensah-Otoo, 42, was declared dead at the scene, according to State Police. A total of six people from the other three involved cars, including a 59-year-old and a 44-year-old from Cohoes, a 37-year-old from New City, New York and three 19-year-olds from Massachusetts, were all taken to HealthAlliance Hospital in Kingston to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries. State Police confirmed that the crash investigation remains ongoing.
