Officer hurt following crash in Grain Valley on Saturday

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP) says a suspect is in custody after a long police pursuit through multiple metro cities. According to the Grain Valley Police Department (GVPD), shortly after 4 p.m., a crash occurred near Route AA and Buckner Tarsney Road. One officer's vehicle was hit in the crash, and they were taken to the hospital in stable condition. Later Saturday evening, GVPD shared that a suspect was arrested after the initial crash near I-70 and Lee's Summit Road. The Missouri State Highway Patrol is now handling the investigation. According to MSHP, the suspect drove away from the scene after crashing into and injuring the officer and was pursued by police, including a helicopter with the Kansas City Police Department (KCPD). The suspect led police through Jackson County, crashing into numerous vehicles, including several police vehicles. The suspect then crashed near I-70 and Lee's Summit Road, where they were taken into custody. MSHP says that KCPD will handle the investigation related to the vehicle theft. GVPD also said that the injured officer is "doing well." This is a developing story; FOX4 will provide updates as they're made available.
