Noel Man Sentenced for Fatal Crash That Killed 72-Year-Old

JAY, Okla. - A Noel man pleaded guilty on Monday to negligent homicide and was sentenced to six months in the Delaware County jail. Dustin Shane Tygart, 40, of Noel, also pleaded guilty to driving left of center in a fatal crash that killed Johnny Houck, 72, of Jay, on Dec. 14, 2021.  Initially, the sentence was 12 months in the Delaware County jail, but six months of that was suspended. A toxicology report shows Tygart tested positive for amphetamines and methamphetamines. According to court records, witnesses to the crash said they saw Tygart swerving and driving erratically, crossing the center line, and striking Houck’s vehicle head-on at highway speed. Houck was ejected from his truck and died at the scene, while Tygart was taken to Freeman Hospital in critical condition with burns, the patrol said. Houck’s obituary said he received his nursing degree at Missouri Southern and worked at Freeman Health System for 35 years. Tygart was also fined $2,600.
