New York State Police ID pilot killed in Saratoga County airport crash

New York State Police have identified the pilot who died after a crash at the Saratoga County airport as 58-year-old James Stewart of Caroga Lake. PREVIOUS COVERAGE Police said Stewart was the only person in the plane and pilot of the engine plane involved in the crash . He was taken to Saratoga Hospital with severe burn injuries and later transferred to Albany Medical Center, where he died on May 26. Investigators said a sailplane detached from the engine plane just before the crash. The sailplane’s pilot landed nearby and was not injured. The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Traffic Safety Board were notified and responded to the scene. Police said any additional information about the cause and precipitating factors must be obtained directly from the National Traffic Safety Board.
